Recently I picked up a book by Dr. Bonnie Weil called, the high "Make Up, don't break Up," and it got me thinking about relationships and break ups in a whole new way. Until last week, I thought of a break as an end, an interruption defined. But the premise of Dr. Weil-that I haven't finished reading still so please correct me if one of you have read the book and consider my misinterpretations-is that a break up can serve a couple better if given a break or to considerably less temporary in order to better than a relationship that is not flowing as we could.
Because a break? It is not your first suggestion, I'll admit. But his idea is that all romantic relationships have a follower and a Distancer (although some reports have two of each, most have one of each). The follower is the person who wants a commitment, is the fear of being abandoned, has no problem to be impulsive or taking risks in a relationship, loves to talk about the report and/or dislikes of being alone. The Distancer would rather leave everything up in the air, but he wants space communication problems that need, is a workaholic and/or is still in relations of fear of being rejected.A break up is required when these two roles become so unbalanced that influence negatively the interaction, i.e. the Distancer is so far and doesn't respond that the Tracker follows even more, with both running in circles, spiraling down fast. break up then allows for both parties get some space, refocus, themselves grounded in a dynamic healthier and concentrate on whatever problems have individually to reconvene and determine whether the relationship can Weather the storm.
The break to make work? Dr. Weil says that in his private practice (she's a therapist) has a success rate of 98% with his break to constitute the technique, using the bevvy of responsibilities and tips in the book (there are tons-way more than I can do justice here).Success of meaning, that people don't break permanently, but rather, temporarily.
So, what do you think? have you read the book and used tactics? it worked for you?, do you think breaking Or to make up could save a good relationship that is in serious trouble?
